The Human Resources department is a part of the administration team, providing support to the programs of House of Friendship. The Training Specialist supports the organization’s success by coordinating employee training across House of Friendship, including managing training systems, certifications and related documentation. This position will also support the development and delivery of in-house trainings in consultation with subject matter experts.

 

** This is a permanent, salaried, full-time position with paid sick time, personal days, vacation time; group health benefits and defined contribution pension plan.

This role offers 30 hours per week; generally daytime hours, Monday to Friday.

Work may be performed from a home office for some hours of the week. **

 

Key Responsibilities:

·       Lead role responsible for coordination and communication of organization-wide and program-level mandatory training requirements in line with program goals, legislative requirements and industry best practices

·       Work closely with Human Resources and Management team across House of Friendship to identify training needs and support the development of strategies to address them

·       Coordinate organizational training and onboarding programs for new hires and ongoing staff training and development; including First Aid Certifications, Crisis Intervention Training, Mental Health First Aid and other program specific training

·       In consultation with management team and Human Resources, performs ongoing reviews of existing training programs; suggests enhancements and modifications to improve engagement, learning, and retention and/or to meet the changing needs of employees or the organization

·       Act as a change agent; contributing to continuous improvement and the successful implementation of training initiatives alongside management team and Human Resources

·       In collaboration with management team members and subject matter experts, support or lead the design, development and delivery of in-house or third party required training programs with the potential to facilitate certain training

·       Create instructional materials, including manuals, e-learning modules, presentations, and other training aids

·       Participate in the development and delivery of training to support new employees as required

·       Develop and maintain a database of information on training and development activities and work with training platforms to ensure qualifications and certification requirements are met including confirming completion of required training, collection of all corresponding certifications and documentation

·       Develop training reports and documents for all programs, as required

·       Ensure that training provided in-house and by third parties is inclusive and accessible to all staff and aligns with House of Friendship’s values and objectives

·       Maintain strong communication with program supervisors and managers regarding employee training progress and any training related issues

 

Education/Experience:

·       Diploma or degree in related field (i.e. human resources, business administration or education)

·       Post graduate certification in Training and Development from an accredited institution (in progress and/or willing to obtain)

·       2 years of previous experience in a similar role creating training materials, developing and facilitating training in a workplace

·       Experience working in an accredited organization and/or familiarity with following accreditation standards would be a strong asset

·       Experience with and understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies and working with adult learners

·       Demonstrated experience in planning, scheduling and coordinating work activities

·       Demonstrated skill in development and coordination of training materials and facilitation skills

·       Demonstrated high level of proficiency using a variety of software programs including HRIS, MS Office, SharePoint etc.

·       Demonstrated collaborative approach that values open and honest communication, integrity, respect, consistency and fairness

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation experience

·       Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

·       Ability to work collaboratively in cross-departmental teams, with management and team while managing competing priorities

·       Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and policies such as Occupational Health and Safety Act

·       Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff, participants and community members

·       Experience with and commitment to using an anti-racism, anti-oppressive and trauma informed approach to consultation, program design, evaluations of processes and service delivery

·       Must be dependable, professional, flexible, a team player, and have a positive attitude

·       Respectful, supportive and engaging approach to persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, addictions, mental illness and other life challenges

·       Excellent project, timeline and deadline management skills including skills in logistics, planning and detailed record keeping

Rate of Pay:

At House of Friendship all compensation ranges are categorized under a series of “grades” and we base our payment structure on internal equity. When determining rate of pay, a candidate’s past related experience will be taken into consideration.

Min: $27.04
Mid: $31.03
Max: $35.02

 

Working Conditions: 

·        30 hours per week, generally daytime, weekday hours

·        Hybrid work option: on-site work will be required on a regular basis and will fluctuate based on projects; some work may be performed from a home office

·        Encountering participants at program sites who may be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, and/or experiencing symptoms of mental illness can be expected
